The Story of Desegregation in Hillsboro, Ohio

Elsie Young and her daughters
Torrice Media was commissioned by the Highland County Historical Society and Museum to capture the dramatic story of school desegregation in Hillsboro, Ohio.

Elsie Young and her two daughters were interviewed about their fight for school integration in Hillsboro, Ohio, in the 1950’s. The interviews will be part of a dynamic exhibition at the Museum in 2017.

“I was seven years old, and my mother took us to march to the school everyday for two years, in the rain, snow, cold. We were afraid at times, people stared and shouted at us, but we knew it was what we had to do.” Elsie Young’s daughter Virginia
