Torrice Media is thrilled to announce its latest project – a 15 minute video commissioned by the Denver Art Museum which accompanies their ground breaking show on female Abstract Expressionist artists. The video combines original and archival photographs, film, paintings, text and interviews with artists such as Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell , Judith Goodwin, Sonia Gechtoff and many others who were part of this important American art movement. I was delighted to include some of the music of Bob Himmelberger in the piece, a talented bebop musician whose tunes captured the mood of the period.

We hope you will catch this exhibition, curated by Gwen Chanzit, in Denver or some of the other museums it will be traveling to next fall.

The exhibition will run June 12, 2016 – September 25, 2016 in Hamilton Building – Level 4. For more information, go to the Denver Art Museum’s website.

The exhibition will then travel to the Palm Springs Art Museum from February 18th – May 29th, 2017. For more information, go to the Palm Springs Art Museum’s website.

Here is a description of the exhibition –

The groundbreaking exhibition Women of Abstract Expressionism will celebrate the often unknown female artists of this mid-twentieth-century art movement. More than 50 major paintings will be on view by artists working on the East and West Coasts during the 1940s and 50s including Elaine de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Jay DeFeo, Sonia Gechtoff, Judith Godwin, Mary Abbott, Perle Fine, Grace Hartigan, Deborah Remington, and Ethel Schwabacher. This will be the first presentation of works by these female artists together at one time.

Women of Abstract Expressionism will focus on the expressive freedom of direct gesture and process at the core of abstract expressionism, while revealing inward reverie and painterly expression in these works by individuals responding to particular places, memories, and life experiences.
